OUR MILK

Irene Estate was established by Alois Hugo Nellmapius in 1889. Nellmapius brought in various livestock to the farm, one of which has become synonymous with the Irene Farm and the surrounding area. Our iconic black and white Holstein cows that are descendants of the original herd (due to the stringent conditions required for raw milk, the farm never buys in new cows), that still produce dairy for the public to this day well over a century later.

The farm has evolved to now include restaurants, a deli and various venues for special events or conferences; whilst keeping the old charm Irene is so well known for. A wonderful outing for both work and leisure!

IRENE FARM CERTIFIED RAW MILK

Irene Farm has been producing and selling Certified Raw Milk to the public for over 120 years. Given our extremely strict and rigorous health, hygiene and maintenance programmes, our milk has always been of the highest quality.

Milking cows at Irene Farm is an interactive activity for visitors, especially families. Guests can experience the farm’s daily routines by watching the milking process firsthand. It’s both educational and fun, providing insight into sustainable farming practices while offering a unique, hands-on connection with farm life.

Raw milk is unpasteurised and must comply with very strict health conditions in order to be approved as Certified Raw Milk, making it safe and healthy to drink.

Some of the healthy nutrients and vitamins in Raw Milk that are degraded or reduced in the pasteurisation process are:

Beneficial bacteria which aid the stomach to function at its best.

Raw Milk is more nutritious and healthier than pasteurised milk as the pasteurising process kills bad bacteria that may be present in the milk and unfortunately, kills much of the good bacteria, vitamins and nutrients at the same time

Food enzymes which help the digestive process;

Immunoglobulins which assist in immunity; and
Vitamins A and C, iron, zinc, calcium, potassium as well as magnesium.
